CAMPUS MINISTRY

CAMPUS MINISTRY

Mission and Vision

Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and form disciples for His Church. We live out that mission with college aged students on the campus of Colorado State University. The way we accomplish that mission is through an invitation to connect, grow, serve, and pray.

“RamCatholic has completely changed my life. I have grown a tremendous amount in my relationship with Jesus and have made some of my closest friends who continually lead me to holiness. I am very proud of the person I am today because of the love and guidance RamCatholic has provided for me.”

Why is Campus Ministry Important?

College for most students is the first time they are away from their families and confronted with complete freedom to make their own decisions. The college experience is full of new beginnings and explorations which can be both positive and negative. Here are some staggering statistics about college students:

  • 65% of college students begin college as a Christian and leave without a faith
  • More than 50% of college students drink alcohol on a regular basis including binge drinking
  • 31% of students report missing class due to drugs or alcohol
  • 22% of students report failing an exam or essay due to drugs and alcohol
  • More than 25% of students suffer from a sexual transmitted disease
  •

Campus ministry serves as a guide during the college experience to help students grow in faith and intellect as well as form lasting friendships and enjoy this unique time in their lives. Saint John XXIII was built in 1969 to provide Campus Ministry at Colorado State University. This Campus Ministry was named Ram Catholic.

Ram Catholic is fully committed to providing a unique, positive, and memorable option during CSU student’s college experience and ensuring that students will enter their communities and home parishes as crucial and positively influential members. Ram Catholic accomplishes this goal through an invitation to connect, grow, serve, and pray.

    Connect

Ram Catholic provides an an authentic community, were students can share their lives with each other and help each other grow. One of the primary ways we encourage authentic community is by connecting people in small groups based on common interests and passions. Other opportunities that Ram Catholic offers for community include: Sunday Night Suppers, socials after Candlelight Mass, Greek Life, intramural sports, outdoor activities, bible studies, and young professional opportunities.

    Grow

Ram Catholic provides opportunities for students to grow and learn about their faith through weekly Mass and confession, retreats, the Aggiornamento Institute, Bible Studies, and RCIA (to become Catholic). The Aggiornamento institute includes a speaker series, classes, and mentorship (professional, family and religious) opportunities.

    Serve

Saint John Paul II wisely taught that you can only find yourself when you make a sincere gift of yourself. In serving others, we come to a deeper understanding of ourselves, while spreading joy and dignity to those in need. Ram Catholic offers a variety of service opportunities to cater to individual interests and charisms. Some of those opportunities include: serving the elderly, unborn and impoverished within our own community, across the country and around the world. We also provide service opportunities within Ram Catholic including a student advisory board and serving at Mass.

    Pray

Ram Catholic strives to provide a community rooted in prayer and the Sacraments. At St. John XXIII, the sacraments are readily available in the form of daily and Sunday mass, daily confession times, and Perpetual Adoration. Other opportunities for prayer include spiritual accompaniment, small groups, Bible studies, and retreats.
